Browser Based Narrative [15/10/2013]
In webdesign there are various tools you can use to plan the layout of the website but you can use the same method when creating any form of narrative.

A client would set the brief and then you would create a plan or flowchart .
When you create a website you start with a flowchart which represents all the links and pages: like a site map which is an open ended structure. The flowchart is a visual representation of the structure allowing you to clearly see what pages go where and what links to what.

When doing a flowchart you must consider the content, target audience, client specification and ease of use.
We experimented with doing our own visual flowcharts by splitting into groups and each illustrating part of a story (below). My group focused on the story of Madeline McCann. So each of us illustrated one part of the story. She went on holiday, her parents went for dinner and finally she went missing. Above each group pinned up there work and ten looked to see if we were able to connect our story to someone else's. Our group were able to link our story to the Nemo one because Madeline was of the age that Nemo would've been relevant to her. Below I have linked each of the pictures to the person who created them. The airplane links to Anastasia's, The meal to Hali and Madeline stays on mine because I drew her but I will link her to the Nemo story because that's the a link.
The site-map for Apple is broken down under subheadings so you can easily navigate around the website.
Below is an example of the hierarchy system that a website may have. A website can link multiple pages to different places within the wireframe but always at the top of the chart is the the homepage or the main hub of the website. Based on this research I have drawn a site map for this hotglue website!
^ This is the site plan for my current Hotglue website.
My boyfriend came back from the war.

My boyfriend came back from the war is a browser based narrative which invites you to dictate the order in which the story goes. You have to click on multiple elements for the story to then progress further.

Games

Games are another form of non linear narrative that can be online. Many people play games on there phones, games consoles and online. Some games are cross platform, an example of this is Candycrush. Many people including myself play the highly addictive game. You can play it online via Facebook or you can download the app for Android and iPhone.

Candycrush consists of multiple levels that you can complete but to complete the level you have to create a combination that works to be able to continue. The narrative part comes in with the various places you have to get through to get t the "Candy Kingdom".
